The Captive seemed like the pg version of Taken, with the protagonist being a sad version of Liam Neeseon. It is unfortunate that the viewer was not given insight into why the kidnapper allowed their victim to view her mother, other to maintain her motivation to lure other children to the ring.

Also the movie alludes to a much bigger ring but in now way takes advantage of the expanded world they create, instead they use this plot point as the basis for the police officer being kidnapped. This second plot line had no real bite and just seemed to be the means to expand a limited original plot line.
