Review of The Captive (2014) by Jeff B — 03 Feb 2016
If you've seen one Oh no! they've taken my daughter-son-wife-husband movie, you've seen them all, haven't you? I really only watched this because I like Ryan Reynolds. But much of the story, characters (acting and role played), plot was just so ho hum.
Remember the scene where Reynolds, Speedman, and Dawson are sitting around the table? I was thinking what's the odds of three people who look that good would be in one place at the same time in the remote wilds of Canada? Only in Hollywood.
And the way Jeffrey (Speedman) suspects Matthew (Reynolds) out of the blue making harsh comments to a traumatized dad just because "the guy reminds me of someone" is just ludicrous. And it appears that when the cops finally capture the paedophile that he's been right in town all along.
Just how can you be such an obvious perv in such a small town for six years or more and not be a suspect? Again, only in Hollywood. And what was Cass' role in things? She was the bait? She was abused? We never get a sense of what's really going on between captive and criminal.
There was just so much that was unexplained, unbelievable, and cliché that I almost turned the movie off a couple times. An all around dud.
