Review of The Captive (2014) by Pearl N — 23 Jan 2019
A near masterpiece. Beautifully shot, the wintery Canadian landscape mirroring the isolation and hopelessness of a fathers guilt, a mothers grief, and a daughters captivity. Atom Egoyan's capability to subtly yet effectively allude to horror without having to explicitly convey it - is a testament to his artistry and integrity.
If you are looking for something explicit (Prisioners) this may not be for you. However if you are interested in innovative film - give it a go.
