Review of The Business of Being Born (2008) by Giffy G — 27 May 2008
The movie did what it set out to do: explain the problems with American childbirth and suggest a remedy. I thought the movie was great and informative, but I didn't like the way it went about it most of the time.
There was some demonization of the medical profession--not a lot, but enough to leave a sour taste in my mouth. There was a sideways attack on feminism at one point--which is weird considering that feminists would be natural allies to this movement.
There was also this underlying assumption that there's only one type of home birth, and that's just misinformation. Still, this movie had a goal and it met it adequately.
