Review of The Big Steal (1949) by David F — 13 May 2011
One of Don Siegel's earliest films is a terrific ride - Army lieutenant Mitchum pursues bankroll thief Knowles while being pursued himself by persistent Captain Bendix. Film is notable as being made while Mitchum was busted for drug possession.
Jane Greer, Mitchum's leading lady in the noir classic 'Out of the Past', teamed up with him again when many other actresses preferred to avoid the controversy. Great locations shot in Mexico used to great effect, and Ramon Navarro, the original Ben-Hur, turns up as a wily police inspector.
