Review of The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) by Bill T — 20 Oct 2010
Great expansive film telling of three soldiers grasping to get back into reality after WWII. Fredric March, Dana Andrews and Harold Russell all play the soldiers, and all have a different set of problems.
While it sometimes dips into the melodrama. it's hard not to get caught up in all of this. extraordinarily shot, and very well laid out and paced (it runs nearly 3 hours), this is a brave film to have done shortly after the war, as it definitely shows some untalked about subjects such as infedility, employment, housing, and just what to do when the free ride for being a veteran stops.
Very engrossing stuff.
