Review of The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) by Anne F — 26 Jan 2011
American soldiers/sailors/airmen returning home after WW2 find that they, and their families have changed during the course of the war. The film is very predictable inasmuch as it's easy to guess who ends up with whom, but seems to approach its subject with an honesty not usually seen in films of that period.
I was particularly impressed by the acting of Harold Russell and must admit that it made me think in a new way of the challenges faced by my grandfather who returned home after that war having lost a hand and a half.
