I like the story and the acting, though it's kind of predictable and dated. I didn't see the Kirk Douglas character as being bad at all but as being intuitive, incredibly misunderstood, and taken for granted.
Only someone who loves and understands people better than anyone else can get the very best out of them, and he does just that. Free TCM Movie On Demand.
