Review of The Babadook (2014) by Emiy K — 29 Jun 2015
The emotions in this movie are by far the strongest pull. Wiseman and Davis feel so authentic as misunderstood 6-year old and exasperated mother that it's like being in a trance. Both are filled with a raw energy that makes their opposing dissents into sanity and insanity addictive to watch.
The monster is a much harder read. Sometimes its scary, sometimes laughable, but maybe that is the point of a child's book come to life. Definitely more a thriller than monster movie, its best watched in the dark with a thirst for more of a character arch than most of the genre.
