Review of The Apartment (1960) by Vincent N — 10 Sep 2008
Sometimes it's hard to give "the classics" the time they deserve. This was one of those times.... I just didn't get pulled into the story. The film straddles tragedy & farce which is sometimes hard for non-contempraries to follow.
The farce falls flat and the tragedy seems quaint compared with the melo-drama's we get today. I appreciate the "everyman"/ corporate angle. The only eyebrow lifter in the movie for me was the $64/month rent the main character pays for his one-bedroom on the upper east side.
... sorry I didn't do the film justice; it was on in the background and I couldn't last though the overlong 2 hour run time.
