Review of The Apartment (1960) by Private U — 13 Dec 2008
If you're stumped by the definition of "dramedy", then watch this movie. It's the perfect example of a (successful) blending of comedy and drama. Lemmon and MacLaine are touchingly pitiful (the gin rummy scene is heartbreaking), MacMurray is brilliant as the definitive bigwig bastard, and Billy Wilder's direction is as awesome as it ever was.
It's funny and sad, but not depressing or unbalanced. It's just a perfect movie.
