No doubt one of the top five Best Picture winners in Oscar history. The greatness starts with the performance of Jack Lemmon, who is at his comedic and heartfelt best in this picture. MacLaine's darker edged performance, tinged with sadness, brings in real heart to the proceedings.
Wilder's writing is some of the best he ever did, while the story manages to be both funny and moving.
