Review of The Andromeda Strain (1971) by Alex L — 04 Sep 2011
"1.) Detection-The first step is to confirm that an organism is present.
2.) Characterization-How is it structured? How does it work?
3.) Control-How to contain and exterminate.".
"Another giant leap for mankind?".
An astonishing science-fiction classic. A breathtaking and supremely haunting masterpiece. An iconic film that ranks as one of the all-time greats o the science-fiction genre. Michael Crichton's novel comes to life on the big screen with frightening realism. The Andromeda Strain is an extraordinarily technical and outrageously cerebral film from Director Robert Wise (The Hindenburg) that can, and will, go over the heads of some viewers, it makes for a seriously smart and searingly compelling movie-going experience. One of the best science fiction films that you will ever sit through, it's packed with imagination, smarts, mystery, suspense and nonstop thrills. An authentic and spellbinding film that was constructed with stunning brilliance and memorable marvels. A highly-charged, old-fashioned, rock-solid, colossal, melodic, immensely swift and puzzling film that is a mind-boggling blast of a good time. A classic that has it's own sense of stylish trademarks, awesome split screens, a haunting score and Robert Wise's use of color here is eye popping, a visionary and visual triumph that was decades before it's time.
The acting was iconic, this film is loaded with spectacular performances throughout. Arthur Hill is brilliant, David Wayne is excellent and James Olsen is spectacular throughout. The supporting cast is great as well. The Andromeda Strain is an epic science-fiction classic that goes down in history as one of the best science fiction films to ever be made.
