Review of The Age of Innocence (1993) by Matthew L — 21 Dec 2007
Scorsese and Day-Lewis did perfect jobs in this. Scorsese's direction is one of a kind and has no equal in this age of cinema. Every time I see a film of his, the camera is always perfectly placed and captures such emotion.
He is not afraid to think outside the box or use special tricks to communicate what he wants to you see and feel. Day-Lewis is so great because he is not loud and crazy when he experiences pain, because the society he lives in does not allow such actions.
Yet, you see from his face and movements that his pain is genuine and almost inhibits him from getting through day to day living. This is definitely one of the most underrated films I have seen.
