Review of The Abyss (1989) by Ben D — 21 Feb 2014
This is one of those science-fiction films that goes between being cracking to ponderous. Mostly it holds up very well - and in 1989 the special effects were top-notch (and they still look pretty damn good in 2012) - and the cast commit themselves admirably.
James Cameron, before the ego was blown, controls the film very well, and - as he would show in later films, handles the action scenes with skill. Good, but silly, fun.
