Review of The Abandoned (2006) by Joe P — 13 May 2009
This was an interesting film. I would classify this as more of a psychological drama meets horror film, not a mere 'scary' movie.
Fate is a common theme running through horror movies. Characters being fated to be born a certain way or fated to die a certain way. The helpless and hopeless feeling that you get when you realize the characters are doomed. The empathy you feel when they realize their fate is sealed.
The Abandoned gives you a sense of dread from the beginning of the film through the end with a variety of clever cinematic and script elements. You can connect with these people, although they are quite disconnected even from themselves and their origins.
A good movie to watch on a rainy evening to escape from your own impending doom.
