Review of Suspicion (1941) by Annemarie B — 15 Mar 2009
Cary Grant. My favorite actor of all time. In Suspicion, he's at his best as a playboy who snags a rich wife (Joan Fontaine, who we're supposed to think is unattractive even though she is drop-dead gorgeous) only to have that wife suspect that he is out to do her in.
Cary has that charm that is enchanting all while having a bit of a dark side to make you think twice. The iconic scene of him walking up the stairs with the glass of milk is such a great shot, is it poisoned or not? I think I would have preferred a bit of a darker ending.
