Review of Survive Style 5+ (2004) by Gabriel H — 31 Jul 2010
This film is utterly insane, and actually very funny. It's a lot like a Chan-wook Park comedy; limb-slicingly dark but intricately cute and poigniant at the same time. The fact that Vinnie Jones is in it just sets the tone that you're not supposed to take a moment of this seriously, from the awesome murdered wife who can't die story to the skyscraper leap/duck man/I will survive cover at the end. The stories weave together really well and you don't see the cross-overs coming, which is quite unusual for a pastiche film. Anybody who likes films like Oldboy, I'm a Cyborg or Takeshi Miike's comedies will like this.
And Monkey Records- totally random classic.
