Review of Survival of the Dead (2010) by Þórður B — 29 Oct 2011
Being one of the worst reviewed movies in the Romero zombie universe I wasn't expecting much and because of this I got a very unexpected surprise. Another great movie by one of the masters of the genre.
That being said I suppose I must add that I also really enjoyed Diary of the Dead which also has a reputation of being a horrible movie. Sure, Survival of the Dead has many bad CG effects, most notably involving a fire extenguisher, but personally I don't go see a Romero film for the effects.
I go for the story and the great characters which this movie had plenty of. Actually, that's the only flaw I can think of, I enjoyed the characters so much I felt the hour and twenty minutes wasn't enough.
The movie should have been at least two hours, maybe more, adding more screen time for the characters and more meat to the situation they found themselves in. But, overall, good movie. Great addition to the Romero universe and I can't wait for more.
