Review of Sunrise (1985) by Stefanos T — 07 Feb 2011
After viewing Sunrise for the first time, I remain completely speechless. From a technical standpoint, it's magnificent. I don't think I've ever seen superimposed images presented in such an effective and dreamlike way before.
The art direction is so beautiful because they have that hand drawn, palette like effect. The editing must have been a pain the ass because it's done so meticulously, especially on these superimposed images.
Needless to say that you will never see a camera fly so gracefully and poetically in any other silent film. And of course, the actors exert such powerful emotions that not even inter-titles are needed to tell this fable with just images.
