Review of Summertime (1955) by Matt J — 19 Sep 2007
This was David Leans personal favourite of his own films.. which is surprising when you throw in Great Expectations, Oliver, Lawrence of Arabia and Dr Zhivago. It was also his first colour film and his expert cinematic eye and editing skills are all here in force.
Katherine Hepburn is heart breaking and Rossano Brazzi beguiling as this mature holiday romance unfolds in the canals of Venice.. Moonstruck borrows so heavily from this movie and no one noticed.. but I did.
lovely.
