Review of Summertime (1955) by Curtis J — 11 Mar 2011
Katharine Hepburn plays a frigid American spinster who still harbors a bit of romance in her heart as she journeys to Venice. Her conventional mid-Century American morality is challenged at every turn, people she likes are leading lives that shock and offend her.
And finally she is challenged by the unavoidable chemistry with the handsome Rossano Brazzi, an antique dealer who woos her into submission and self-discovery. Venice is captured in all it's beauty and is a true character in the film.
Romantic and well acted. Hepburn is at her most charming.
