Review of Steve Jobs (2015) by Nigel E — 29 Jun 2016
Focusing only on three acts, three major product shippings in computing history, "Steve Jobs" is a peculiar piece of art. I love Aaron Sorkin's work, "The West Wing" being my number 1 favourite TV show ever and he can write like no other.
This was showed before in "Social Network" when he turned the likely boring story of how Facebook was created and turned it, with the help of David Fincher, into a great movie. Now working with Danny Boyle, another great director, they turned another story from plain to great.
But to tackle his enourmous lines (it's Shakespearian, really, how long some pieces of dialogue is) you need great actors. Michael Fassbender continues to impress with his acting skills and he is an absolute powerhouse in here, as is Kate Winslet.
Supporting them are Seth Rogen (nice to see him in a serious role), Michael Stuhlbarg, Katherine Waterston and Jeff Daniels and there was not one rotten apple in this case. But when looking for something negative, it needs to be pointed out that Sorkin's style is not for everyone and there's the fact of the three acts.
The story is kinda un-movie like, more on theater styled and for a biography, it doesn't tell the whole story of the man who was Steve Jobs. But overall, it was insanely well written, well acted and well directed and that's pretty much all I want from a movie.
