Review of Starship Troopers (1997) by Alexander W — 30 Nov 2012
Well-paced, well designed (though the ending seemed a bit rushed and the brain-bug designed too literally). It's also a thought-provoking, satirical film, forcing us to morally debate. We feel attracted to the military, which is inherently fascistic to some degree.
Is that good or bad? The story could proceed frictionlessly because the enemy were seemingly non-sentient bugs. But what if the enemy was a clearly sentient alien race (or even another human colony)? Why does killing change in this context?
