Review of St. Elmo's Fire (1985) by Mark H — 28 May 2018
A sentimental, syrupy drama about how 7 college friends fair in the 6 months following their graduation. It's a bit much, but it plays better with those of us who feel a sense of nostalgia for those chaotic years in our early 20's.
There is some truth and many scenes ring true. Plus, it features the Brat Pack at the height of their fame when they looked young and perfect. Who among us doesn't identify with at least one of them? Decent 80's music too.
It's a pretty good movie about a group of friends growing apart and being tested by "real life." I remember being 22 very well. This movie does evoke some emotions from that time in my life.
