Review of Spartacus (1960) by Philip F — 10 Dec 2010
Probably the best 'swords n sandals' epic ever made and not because of its spectacle (though there is lots of that) It's the human story which grabs you, and the fact that Stanley Kubrick directed, but held on a tight rein by producer/star Kirk Douglas which creates great art but also great entertainment.
The fact that the six leading actors are all flawless helps too.
