Review of Spartacus (1960) by Kevin R — 06 Nov 2011
This film set the standard for the modern epic. Kirk Douglas does a great job as a slave fighting only for his freedom. The battle scenes between the slaves and the Roman Army are staggering due to the fact that it was done 30 years before CGI and the scale still seems larger than most modern epics.
However, this is nearly unrecognizable as a Stanley Kubrick film. If his name wasn't in the credits you would probably have never known.
