Review of Somewhere (2010) by Undefined U — 17 Apr 2011
Did Sophia Coppola run out of ideas that she wanted to remake "Lost In Translation" already? Because "Somewhere" seems more like a retreading of old trails already made by her. Not to say the movie was bad, but without the originality and without Bill Murray, it is a step down. Was hoping for a lot more in terms of character redemption, but it all seemed like the movie cut off before anything could be redeemed. Yup, the movie just... ends like that.
A down and out actor is on his way to promote a new film, still leading a reckless life of drinking, sex, and without much care. When his daughter arrives and he must take care of her for a few days while the ex-wife is out on business. But when the ex-wife says she is not coming back for a while, the two's relationship starts to change.
