Review of Somewhere (2010) by Barry S — 04 Oct 2013
"Somewhere" is a story that indeed belongs "somewhere," but not on a movie screen. Where in the world do the professional critics get a 71% approval rating for this piece of crap. I'm sorry, but the fact that Sofia Coppola is related to Francis Ford Coppola does not give her the right to inflict this much pain on a movie viewing audience.
The pace of the movie moves slower than a turtle. There is no story line other than what we got in the first fifteen minutes. We get it! Johnny Marco is a womanizing, smoking, drinking movie star who is totally bored with his life and feels like he is going nowhere.
He's got a great car to drive, and a beautiful young daughter, but his wife just left him and "doesn't know when she's coming back." I don't ever know if the two hours I wasted watching this totally boring movie is ever coming back either.
That's two in a row for Sofia Coppola: Bill Murray in "Lost in Translation" was another total bomb. Somehow both these movies managed to get "glowing reviews and win prizes." Don't waste your time.
You'll thank me.
