Review of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) by Cork B — 11 Oct 2018
After mixed feelings towards TLJ I approached this with cautious optimism. It seemed unnecessary (even some Disney Store staff I spoke to, who are usually super-positive, were unconvinced of whether it was worthwhile) but then the same argument could be levelled at Rogue One and that turned out really well.
So, what of Solo? It's really good, not perfect, but very close to the feel of the Original Trilogy. It's an entertaining story with plenty of links to the other films and the animated series. It's basically the most fan orientated film of the Disney era. Also, unlike TLJ, it left me wanting to see more and I hope a sequel does go ahead. Nothing is ever going to fully live up to the originals, but Rogue One and Solo give me hope for the future of the franchise.
