Review of Sleeper (2012) by Curtis M — 25 Feb 2009
Sleeper is a decent film, but it doesn't quite live up to some of the classics Woody Allen has to his name. The biggest problem really comes in the slapstick. It's just not that funny. Woody tries to mask this by playing ridiculous jazz music over top of it, but is unsuccessful.
This is really too bad, because hints of Woody's clever dialogue is scattered throughout the film, and some of the social commentary is pretty sharp. Sleeper is a zany film that has its moments, but it's far from AllenĂ¢??s best.
