Review of Sleeper (2012) by Kyle G — 08 Nov 2014
Woody Allen showcases his immense verbal and physical talents in "Sleeper," which I consider far superior comedically to his more recognized works, such as "Annie Hall" and "Manhattan," due to its fearless plunge into ridiculousness. Here Woody doesn't marginalize comedy in favor of drama, but vice-versa. Since this is pretty much just an extended skit that displays complete mastery of its genre, it is nigh impossible to criticize in any other regard. To me, "Sleeper" has cemented Allen's reputation as the best comedy moviemaker of all time.
On a side-note Diane Keaton holds up well with Allen onscreen and is darn funny herself (her "Stanley" is a hoot). There are no other intentionally funny characters except a missile-launcher team that can never get it right.
