Review of Silent Running (1972) by Ben B — 27 Nov 2009
If boredom had struck me the day I watched this, I might not have watched this movie. Unfortunately for me, I was so tired that I couldn't even get bored. The movie was, of course, very boring. A team of scientists are out in space growing the last remains of plant life from the now destroyed planet earth. The Main character's urge to see life grow and continue and to resume life on earth, causes him to go crazy. As the government puts an end to his beautiful creations, Dern's character Freeman, mutiniy's the space ship he's on, killing his co-workers and blasts off into space to be alone with his plants.
The cheesiest part was the interlude of several songs by Joan Baez that convey the 70s so much, I felt like I was going to puke. Generally it's a hippy ecological movie about trying tos ve earth, because we're going to end up destroying it anyway.
I cannot recommended this movie to anyone, but I bet it will be remade pretty soon..
