Review of Silent Running (1972) by Keenan S — 04 Mar 2014
Silent Running is a superb sci-fi film about all sorts of things, ranging from the environment, messages about changing times, loneliness, and much more. I found myself engaged from start to finish as the story followed the character Lowell and how his sudden breakdown from realizing he's about to lose his dream costs him everything and how he is forced to fight his inner turmoil (After killing his fellow crew members during his breakdown and hijacking the ship) in the never-ending abyss of space, with only the company of machines to keep him sane.
While most viewers these days will bash this film for being dated, I absolutely loved this film and I feel it hasn't aged a day because it still has a lot to say about the world, human nature, and technology.
If you enjoy the darker 70's sci-fi films, this is one to check out.
