Review of Silent Hill (2006) by Drew R — 27 Oct 2012
Can't believe I haven't reviewed this before.
First of all, the film was gorgeous. The look of the series was translated amazingly well to the big screen. The music from the games was very well used. The monsters were also very creepy.
The dialogue was very awkward, however, and the cult was so over-the-top and cartoony in the way they acted that it was hard to take them seriously with the exception of Christabella. Dahlia was also very well-acted. Unfortunately, the little girl was strange and unconvincing. The monsters also should have had a more expanded role. They show up for one scene and then are never seen again, and they are never really battled.
The game series is classic and revolutionary, and this film didn't quite do a good job of presenting it to a mass audience in a way that captures that. As far as video game movies go, pretty good. As a Silent Hill film, it's wasted potential.
