Review of Silence (2017) by Isadore H — 16 Jan 2017
Silence is the latest film by the legendary director Martin Scorsese, and stars Andrew Garfield. The premise is something that I found very interesting and something that wasn't explored enough in other films, but it unarguably requires a very talented director to pull off a very good movie for this plot.
I was very interested the entire time while watching this, and for a near 3-hour film, that's not something easily done. The acting was amazing and the cinematography was immaculate. The themes that Scorsese went for were completely fleshed out in a very satisfying way.
The film did get a bit long for me, but to say that it got boring or melodramatic is simply not the truth. I was amazed when watching Andrew Garfield's character push through trial after trial and I really felt like I was suffering with his character, and feeling his suffering and despair during this film.
Silence is a very good film, some will consider a tour de force, maybe even a masterpiece, some will be bored by it. I'm closer to the positive end of the spectrum, but I cannot guarantee the same reaction for everyone else.
