Review of The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017) by Isadore H — 19 Aug 2017
The Hitmans Bodyguard features Ryan Reynolds, Samuel Jackson, and Gary Oldman...playing themselves. While this is at times undeniably entertaining to watch, other times it comes off as though the two leads don't have much chemistry.
One thing that really surprised was Patrick Hughes significant improvement over his action scenes from the mess that was The Expendables 3. It gets a tad choppy at times, but all in all it was relatively easy to follow and was truly inventive in its final act where Reynolds is trying to use anything he can to fight.
The plot isn't anything special, but effective use is made out of it, I really wish there would have been better writing for the characters though, because I never really got attached to them of the forced romances.
One huge negative about this film is the villain, Gary Oldman is about as cookie cutter as it gets, and they really could have cast anyone in that role. I realize that I may sound harsh on this film, but in the end I can say I had a good time between the solid action scenes and the occasional laughs, even if the film is unfocused and never hots it's mark as much as their leads.
