Review of Side Effects (2013) by Lisa R — 04 Jan 2014
A reasonably well made thriller, that succeeds mostly with the cinematography, styling, direction and music. In what could be one Soderbergh's last films, he certainly has a style that cinema will miss.
Rooney Mara and Jude Law are both very good, but Channing Tatum and especially Catherine Zeta-Jones are dreadfully miscast or simply can't act quite as well as the other two, which is probably more likely!
It was let down by dropping the pace in the middle, seeming to be a little repetitive in theme and message and it did become rather convoluted at the same time as being a tad predictable even with many twists and turns in the plot.
