Review of Shame (1968) by Niiles P — 29 Nov 2008
Extraordinarily bleak look at how weak human relationships and human dignity can be in the face of anarchy and oppression. The Liv Ullman and Max Von Sydow characters could be any couple caught up in a civil war.
Probably the film's strongest point is its pacing--the film charts the couple's degeneration from mild bickerers to people who would do anything to anyone to survive as the horror of the conflict envelopes their lives.
