Review of Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll (2010) by Ant C — 17 Jan 2010
Being a fan of Ian Dury & the Blockheads since I was 14yrs old (and having seen them twice) - I went to see the movie on the basis of friends raving about it ... and they weren't wrong ... it is centred around Ian's relationship with his son (who, I didn't know till I saw the film, was the kid on the cover of ID & the Blockheads' 1st album "New Boots And Panties" - a classic album) and also the band members' relationship with him - and each other - with some flashbacks (on Ian's part) to his earlier life - especially since he was struck down with Polio at a young age and sent to what amounted to a mental instituion for the young (for the wrong reasons).
It's very poignant in places but the overall outcome is that anybody can do anything if they really want to. The music was, as far as I could tell, taken from the original singles/albums etc - and they are still great too - of course! Go see it!
