Review of Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll (2010) by Glen O — 19 Jul 2013
This is a good biopic of the manic Dury played convincingly by Andy Serkis. In spite of the description above Dury was not 'one of the founders of the punk movement in the 1970s.' The punks loved him but he never considered himself one of them.
He was a vaudevillian performer with brilliant lyric writing skills and a rock and roll sensibility that led to some of the most original and witty music of the period. You may not become a convinced fan after seeing this but if you were a fan of his music in the late 70s and early 80s there'll be some enjoyment for you here.
The two hours might be better spent on Spotify listening to his first three studio albums.
