Review of Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll (2010) by Tibor B — 01 Oct 2011

A quite entertaining music biopic of Ian Dury, frontman of the Blockheads who had success in the tail-end of punk with his peculiar blend of outcast poetry set to accomplised pub-punk-funk. Serkis is fantastic as Dury, whose childhood polio left him disabled with a simultaneously charming and mean personality.

The film has a strong visual style, mixing biopic with lively animation and theatrical concert footage. My only gripe is that in all honesty, there isn't a huge amount of plot or dramatic momentum to support the strong cast.
