Review of Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll (2010) by Aaron J — 01 Feb 2013
Two words: Andy Serkis. Andy Serkis channels British Punk Rocker Ian Dury Beautifully, his performance is nothing short than Oscar-Worthy, He lights up the screen with such emotion and rage, it is so exciting to see him act in a leading role, He dominates every scene he is in.
I will say that the movie suffered from a little bit of a weak script, but the film is so seductive to watch. The film follows Ian's struggle with polio from an early age and how he was forced to find his own voice to express his artistic expression through music, the film is one of those hidden gems that once you watch it you won't be able to forget, I've seen alot of biopics about rock stars but this one and Nowhere Boy are probably my favorites, Alot of people don't understand that this is supposed to be an art film that is supposed to let you feel Ian's inner emotions, and what he was trying to do with his music.
This film gets ***1/2.
