Review of Seven Samurai (1954) by Michael L — 11 Apr 2011
One of Kurosawa's most well-known and influential films is also one of the best films ever made. Even though the most complete edition runs about 200 minutes, it feels much shorter than that. The battle sequences between the villagers and the bandits are far more exciting than the action in films like "Battle Los Angeles".
It was later remade into the film "The Magnfiicent Seven", one of the few remakes I enjoy. This was the first film by Kurosawa that I saw and made me a Kurosawa fan. It's never ceased to amaze me that Kurosawa made so many films that can be called "masterpieces" including: Ikiru, Rashomon, Yojimbo, Ran, Kagemusha, and Throne of Blood.
