4/4.
Kurosawa's masterpiece only seems to gain more status and evaluate more power over the years, and still continues to influence countless filmmakers. A poor village under attack by bandits recruits Mifune (in a powerhouse performance) and six other unemployed samurai to help them defend themselves. Staggering action scenes and memorable characters; an outstanding film in every way. One of the ten greatest films ever made.
