Review of Seven Chances (1925) by Richard D — 09 May 2015
A minor effort from Keaton (apparently his least favourite of his own films), which still amounts to a pretty wonderful film. Keaton finds out that he will inherit $7 million if he marries by 7 PM the same day.
Due to a misunderstanding, the girl he really loves rejects him, sending him on a quest to find a bride. This is the rare Keaton film that's based on a pre-existing property (a stage play), so the writing is not as sharp as it could be.
The long sequence where Keaton is rejected by a series of women gets to be dull and repetitive. But a final chase sequence where Keaton races to the house of his true love pursued by hundreds of women in bridal gowns livens it up again and features the wild, physical comedy one expects from him.
The terrible Chris O'Donnell film "The Bachelor" is a remake.
