Review of Serpico (1973) by Milt S — 22 Mar 2011
My ongoing fascination of gritty cop dramas continues as I fell upon another gem from 70's, this time based on real events making the realism even more pronounced. And who better to enact the character than an Al Pacino fresh from playing majestic Michael Corleone in Godfather!...It was a raw Al Pacino those days without any style & mannerisms that dominated his performances in later half of his career(not that I ever complained being such a huge fan) but radiating that imperious intensity as he captures the frustration, disgust & exasperation of the character with elan.
A huge credit also goes to Sidney Lumet who is able to exhibit ubiquity of corruption without vilifying individuals making helplessness of Serpico overwhelming and eternal.
Good old Pacino in good old 70's. If you hv missed it grab it at once.
