Review of S.C.U.M. (2010) by Vincent O — 19 Jan 2012
Stark, brutal and at times downright depressing. Alan Clarke's first of only three films was his most powerful work. 'Scum' was adapted from the Roy Minton's banned TV production and is honed even further for the big screen.
Remains Ray Winstone's finest performance and has only dated in endearing ways. The use of strong but realistic language/violence became the vital essence of such a risk taking drama.
