Review of The Dead Zone (1983) by Vincent O — 06 Jan 2012
In my mind Cronenberg's best outing came with this cracking (but severely underrated) chiller. Both walken and Sheen are close to perfection in their respective roles and have rarely acted better. The story concerns a man who wakes up (after a car crash) from a horrific five year coma, only to discover he has a special (but cursed) gift.
After staying in the shadows he naturally ends up as a psychic detective, tracking two different but equally dangerous killers (subsequently putting his own life in jeopardy). Containing some of this master's of horror most cutting moments, such as suicide by scissors, eek!
