Review of Savages (2006) by Sol C — 07 Dec 2008
A story about an estranged brother and sister who come to grips with having to take care of their senile father. It was extremely realistic. I could foresee myself being in a situation similar to this in my life time.
The characters were deep, if not described as depressing. The acting from Hoffman and Linney was a perfect marriage for the plot. The film had a strange sense of humor about it that was vague but plentiful, which had me laughing at things that would otherwise be considered sad or morbid.
All and all I didn't see the big deal, maybe the critics saw something I didn't or valued something about the film that I overlooked as mediocre. It was good, just not award winning in my books.
